This is my blog, this is my opinion. I respect yours. That being said, my vegan friend just sent me this, an essay written by a vegan, on why you, me and everyone in the world should be vegan. This, is my response.
I say if you want to be vegan, be vegan. Go ahead. eat all the not meat you want. But, do not tell me I have to be vegan, or think you are better than me because I eat your furry little friends. This Dan Piraro has done both those things in this article. You should probably read it before going on- I’m going to pick and choose the few quotes that stuck out the most for me and tell you why he is wrong. The first one:
Sure- that is the only reason they are out in the country. Forget the fact that there isn’t a lot of space to house, slaughter and package millions of animals. But you, you have saved us. You showed us the light.
Dan then asks us to visit some of his completely unbiased, totally showing both sides of the story websites, such as PETA.org and WhyVegan.org. PETA especially, only tells a completely one ended side of the story. Peta leaves out on their website how they are guilty of killing animals, just as our “mega corporations” are. see here.
My favorite part is right here though:
So I guess it’s all or nothing with Dan. According to Dan, with this statement, if I eat meat, I might as well beat my dog. Because I eat meat, I don’t give a shit about animals. Thanks, Dan.
Here are the Next few Quotes:
“…If you still eat meat, you’re undoing all your recycling efforts a million times over.” (2)
“And the real kicker is that it isn’t even good for us. Meat and dairy are the major culprits in the majority of cancer…” (3)
“There are so many good reasons to stop eating meat— your health….” (4)
“…there is almost no food…I haven’t found a delicious and much more nutritious vegan version of.” (5)
So I guess 1, 4 and 5 I will have simialr arguments too. Being a Vegan is healthier. First of all, not to nitpick (but he is telling me how to live), i don’t see any sources with evidence that being a vegan is healthier. Being vegan, you don’t get all the natural vitamins you need. I have seen it first hand. You don’t get enough Iron or protein, and you need to take pills to get what you are missing. You cannot live on eating plants alone. Or Meat alone. We need both.
Eating meat is bad for the environment too? how about that. I looked for our buddy Dan’s source, but that doesn’t exsist. So for all I know, he made that up. But from what I gather, he is taking a jab at how factories pollute, maybe? And Dan, that is all factories, your car, and your garbage. So, you might as well stop living if you really care about the environment.
But here is the coup de gras (?)- Eating meat causes cancer. you read it here. But don’t just believe Dan in this article. Believe him in his other article, Are Humans Carnivores? This is another flagrant amount of bull shit that I may or may not rip into at a later date. But here is what we want: “vegetarians have 60% less cancer than meat-eaters”. What does that even mean? If you take a vegetarian cancer patient and a meat-eating one, the vegetarian has less? That’s what it sounds like. That does say shit about meat causing cancer. Let’s neglect the fact that more people eat meat than don’t. But it’s gotta be the meat. Not the cigarettes (which have hard evidence saying it causes cancer), not Asbestos, not every other cancer causing agent in the world. Dan, cut the bull shit. If you want to be vegan, fine. But DO NOT tell me that if I love animals, I have to be vegan. That if I eat meat, I will get cancer. Or a Heart Attack. If you don’t take care of yourself, you will be unhealthy, NOT because you eat meat. LATER
